DAVID WARNER JOINS THE SQUAD FOR THIRD TEST | crickinfopolls

David Warner has been named in the Australian team for the remaining two Tests with India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with Joe Burns sidelined.

Australian team: Tim Paine (c), Pat Cummins (vc), Sean Abbott, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, James Pattinson, Will Pucovski, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Wade, David Warner
Warner, who was sidelined for the first two Tests due to injury, had been making little progress in full strength. While coach Justin Langer admits he has no doubt his departure ahead of the Melbourne Test, he is expected to return to his place of eleven in the Sydney Test which starts on January 7.

"David has made significant progress in his recovery from injury and will be given every opportunity to play in Sydney for another seven days until the game," Trevor Hohns said in a statement issued by Cricket Australia.

Hohns also expressed disappointment at playing under Burns in two Tests and said, "Unfortunately, Joe's return was not what he or the electorate would have liked or thought he could do."

In addition to Warner's return, the 18-member team sees the return of Will Pucovski and Sean Abbott. Pucovski, who had a chance to start a Test match at the start of the series, was sidelined after being hit in the head during a practice match. Pucovski, who had a history of mixed-related injuries (9 in total), is said to have "no symptoms".

"Will is in the final stages of the return of the contractors and has been without symptoms for some time. He will be able to play in Sydney once he completes the return of goal-scoring and independent testing," Hohns said.
